Tina Marsden brings more than 25 years of teaching experience to every lesson. She has tutored students from elementary to tertiary standard, many of whom have successfully passed Yr 12 IB and HSC Music exams, and AMEB Preliminary to A.Mus examinations. Students have found placement in University music courses and she has tutored students through their undergraduate University music degrees in Queensland and New South Wales.
Tina completed post graduate music studies in Munich, Germany and thereafter taught at a music school in southern Germany from 1998-1999. She returned to Brisbane in 2000 and quickly established herself as a sought-after teacher within the South-East Queensland corner.
Tina held a sessional position instructing, examining and auditioning flautists at the Queensland Conservatorium for four years. She was the flute tutor and conductor of the Young Conservatorium Flute Ensemble (an organisation helping high school students to prepare for tertiary study or higher music exams) for five years. At the 2007 Brisbane Eisteddfod Tina was awarded the 'Most Outstanding Woodwind Teacher Award'.
Tina has maintained a private studio during and after music studies in Brisbane, Munich and Sydney. She currently teaches in schools and runs a successful private flute studio in Newcastle and Sydney. In addition to lessons, students also love participating in various competitions and the student concerts she hosts throughout the year.
Tina has also served as vice-president, secretary, events organiser and committee member of the NSW Flute Society and Qld. Flute Guild. She is an enthusiastic member of teacher meet-ups, eager to learn alongside other professionals.
In January 2016 and 2017, Tina collaborated with James Kortum (Lecturer in Flute, Sydney Conservatorium) and Andrew MacLeod (Principal Piccolist, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) to create a special weekend course for teachers of the flute at Macedon, Melbourne. Topics range from discussing technical aspects of the flute, through to the organisational, emotional and creative aspects of teaching the instrument. 'The Complete Flute for Teachers' is a wonderful way for specialists of the flute to interact and gain valuable professional development for their craft.
Tina enjoys the challenge of finding innovative ways to encourage students to do their best. Spurred on by COVID online teaching, she is especially interested in what music technology offers the student in the private flute lesson setting.
